Story
Best-selling novelist and award-winning audiobook narrator Alison Larkin changes the gender of Scrooge in this ground-breaking new recording of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. It's the same beloved Christmas story - only one thing has changed. In this version, Scrooge is a woman. Everything else, though, is pure Dickens. So, in this version, the characters behave as if it were quite normal for a girl to learn to read and write, fall in love with a woman, and have the kind of life and career only men could dream of in 1843.

The Chuzzlewits are a family divided by money and selfishness; even young Martin, the eponymous hero, is arrogant and self-centred. He offends his grandfather by falling in love with the latter’s ward, Mary, and sets out to make his own fortune in life, travelling as far as America - which produces from Dickens a savage satire on a new world tainted with the vices of the old. Martin’s nature slowly changes through his bitter experience of life and his enduring love for Mary.

Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Wonderful classic, brilliantly read
The narrator did an excellent work of interpreting the different voices and moods throughout - ghostly voices and all! I also loved the transformation in Scrooge's own voice from the beginning to the end.
The classic is wonderfully thoughtful, sensitive and funny - my favourite Dickens work so far!

Thoroughly enjoyable!
Getting the unabridged version of A Christmas Carol is the only way to do justice to this magical work by Dickens. Don't settle for less. A Christmas Carol is so well known it's as if by osmosis we absorb it. But Dickens descriptions ar so good. Chandler Craig gives a very good performance and his characters are absolutely first class. Thoroughly recommended.

A true classic treated perfectly
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes! There are few better stories in English literature, and the opportunity to hear the entire story as originally written without edits, embellishments, or other "enhancements" is priceless.
What other book might you compare A Christmas Carol: The Unabridged Classic Narrated by Chandler Craig to and why?
I haven't listened to many audio books, but grew up on CBS Radio MysteryTheatre. I lived for each new episode. The power of a skilled actor to keep us enthralled with only their voice is a lost art. Mr. Craig goes far in reviving and keeping that art alive.
What does Chandler Craig bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
An obviously gifted character actor with vocal mastery, Mr. Craig peoples this wonderful story with a marvelous cast of characters perfectly interpreted.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A Christmas Carol - as it was meant to be told!
Any additional comments?

so happy I got the unabridged version so I wouldn't miss a single details of Charles Dickens expressionism and how he vividly paints the surroundings in his telling making it come to life as though your are walking through the streets with scrooge an onlooker standing silently, and how through the narrotors voice each character comes to life so much in a way u cant help bur feel li u know themthe story is very deep moving profoundly powerful in all its universal themes despite its antiquity how they still apply to our day and age and the truth that surrounds humanity from rich to poor. it's truly a masterpiece of Dickens that should always be retold as he says he doesn't mean to lay it to rest so we can remember the importance of all the moral humanity it resembles so let haunt the holidays it's a classic that is undying as the ghosts that tells it N takes scrooge by the hand through all the happiest to saddest moments of his life to remind him of our true life's obligations with our fellow brothers and man to be tolerable compassionate even when life gives us every reason not to it teaches one to love intensely and vastly more than ones self and that we are all in it together no matter which role we take or choses us we chose how we react to everything our destiny and outcome for our greater good. I find this classic to be a heart wrenching timeless classic that deserve without an inexplicable doubt to be maintained and treasured always.
