Rita Daniels became fascinated with Harriet Tubman's life after learning she was a 3X
Great Grand Niece to this iconic woman by her mother. Rita loved her heroism and is
proud to be associated with such a phenomenal iconic woman and her strong Legacy.
Harriet Tubman's struggle as an enslaved person is why Rita wants her Legacy never to go
unrecognized or forgotten! Harriet Tubman's life will not be a life we take for granted.
Rita Daniels was born in Auburn, New York (where Harriet Tubman lived the last 52 years of
her life) to Milton and Geraldine Copes-Daniels. She has six sisters and two brothers and is
the fourth born. Rita has two adult children (Ronald and RiShana) – and five grandchildren
(Kierra, Kalen, Mia, Amiyah, & Royal). Rita has earned her master's degree in education and
a bachelor's degree in human resources (CUM LAUDE) at Trident University International.
After Harriet Tubman managed to escape the severe beatings and humiliation of slavery
herself, she repeatedly put her life on the line to help others seek freedom. Tubman's life consisted of struggles and
persistence, whether she fought on behalf of enslaved people, fought for the Union army during the Civil War, or fought
for women's rights. She could proudly boast, "Quote" I was the conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years,
and I can say what most conductors can't say - I never ran my train off the track, and I never lost a passenger."
Rita's goal is to continue this Legacy through her vision of the Harriet Tubman Learning Center (HTLC). The Learning Center
is a Literacy Program that includes Robotics, Youth Entrepreneurial classes, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering,
and Math), and cultural art for underserved and underprivileged students in the Atlanta area.
Many people are unaware that Harriet Tubman died illiterate at age 92. Illiteracy is problematic around the United States
and the world, and it is Rita's goal to combat illiteracy with your help! She realizes she can't do it alone and needs people
who care about our failing educational systems to get involved. This initiative is necessary and is a much-needed
educational program. By combatting the illiteracy problem that has plagued our children and communities, Rita is making
it her mission to offer educational solutions to our failing youths at HTLC.
Rita has traveled throughout the United States and has had numerous opportunities to present to schools,
conventions, fundraisers, conferences, and churches. She and her mother have received Proclamations and Awards on
behalf of the Harriet Tubman Learning Center.
