Mary Walz was raised on the west coast of British Columbia. At age seven she began making up characters, and soon after she stared writing stories about them on her parents’ old black-and-green computer. She wrote her first novel-length story at sixteen (spoiler: it wasn’t very good). Between 2009 and 2015 she self published three novels and an anthology of short stories. During that time she became very involved in an online writing community, and won prizes for her work. She began writing Firebrand at the beginning of 2016. After working on it for five years on and off, she finally signed on with RCN Media in the fall of 2021. When she is not writing, Mary can be found tending her garden, feeding the neighbourhood crows, baking delicious goodies, or running around in the woods dressed as a fairy or a wizard. She lives in Sidney, BC, a sleepy seaside town with one main street and about a dozen bookstores, with her husband Dave and her plant babies.
