Marvin Brauer is an award-winning American author of novels and memoirs in multiple genres including fantasy (both epic and urban), historical, and literary. He has received the Literary Titan Gold Book Award for two of his books: A Sea Tail, and The Ordinary Adventures of Somerset Soames von Hesse. His short story With Every Head Bowed (which is included with his novella, Three Nights with a Djinni) won a First Place Award in a short story contest judged by Dave Long from Bethany House. He has also received numerous five-star editorial reviews from Reader's Favorite among others. Brauer grew up in Egypt, Lebanon, Colorado, and Virginia. He attended six different colleges and or universities interspersed by an enlistment in the U.S. Navy, and a year teaching all eight grades in a one-room schoolhouse. He then settled down, got married, and worked for many years as a medical doctor in Pennsylvania, Virginia, North Carolina, and California. He and his wife now enjoy camping, reading, and spending time with their two daughters, who unfortunately live on opposite sides of the country. (Why couldn't they live closer together!) Marvin now pursues his lifelong passion of storytelling. The Ordinary Adventures of Somerset Soames von Hesse was the recipient of the Literary Titan Gold Book Award for Outstanding Literature. This is historical fiction in the tradition of classics such as Of Human Bondage. A Sea Tail, his Urban Fantasy, is the story of a mythological creature in modern Venice. His coming-of-age novel, Wince: The Imburt Hawkins Story received a five-star review from Reader's Favorite. It is a story of a young lad growing up in the seventies who just want to sing but unfortunately is in a very conservative religious faith. His novella Three Nights with a Djinni includes the short story, With Every Head Bowed. The novella is the story of a young college student in a Christian college who must hide the djinni who emerged from the lamp he bought in Asheville. Shall Die by the Sword is a medieval love and adventure story set across the countryside of 14th century France. The Little Schoolhouse by the River, is a memoir of Brauer's year teaching in Western Colorado. It has a James Herriot vibe. Flight of the Midnight Prince is epic high fantasy. It is volume one of the Fallaire Codices, in which twelve young people are thrust together to try and correct the critical mistakes and negligence of their elders. Brauer has one book of poetry available, Brauer's Book of Hours. The author is particularly fond of this volume. Unfortunately, as he notes, poetry does not attract much attention. A World of Slanted Light is scheduled for release January of 2026. It is the story of a young man and three widows who are trying to figure out how to go forward after the tragedy of a coal-mining disaster. Their relationship turns out to be unusual and against societal norms. Can love survive?
