When his Venetian friend wanted to stop off at a pier to show him something, Dr. Manques had shown little interest. What could be better, having just finished lunch, than to go straight back to the house and have a good nap. But then Lorenzo had dragged out the carcass of a fish. Indeed, Dr. Manques had been right. What a waste of time. Feel it? Feel the fish? Whatever for? Alright, alright if you insist. Don't argue, he would just feel the scales and then go home. And Dr. Manques was now alert, because what fish had both scales and skin, or what marine mammal had both skin and scales. What had they just found?
