After I retired from our family business in 2019 I began to write my first book, 'Hearts of Steel' that follows the career of my great grandfather, Herbert Leeder, who served in the British Royal Navy from 1918 - 1945. My interest in Military History began when I was a boy, building Airfix models of aeroplanes, ships and all sorts of military hardware. That interest has led to studying for an MA in the subject with Wolverhampton University and presenting talks to various organisations about my favourite subject. In 2019 I learned to fly, gaining my Private Pilots License at Compton Abbas Airfield in Dorset. Flying is a passion and led me to write 'Clear Prop!', about my experience in becoming a pilot. I hope that it enthuses anyone with a similar desire to do so. I am still flying regularly with friends in the joint ownership of a 1969 Piper Cherokee-180, G-YULL.
