Jeromy Baumbach is a writer of literary nonfiction living in the Midwest. His work focuses on the intersection of public record, criminal psychology, and the limits of what reporting can recover. Before turning to writing full-time, he spent his career in field work across Iowa, Nebraska, the Dakotas, Minnesota, and Missouri — a life of long highway miles, small-town diners, and conversations with people who tell you the truth slowly. That work taught him to listen for the things that don't get said the first time. The Quiet Mind is his first book. It is the kind of account he went looking for and didn't find: one built from the legal record up, written with care for the four students who were lost, and honest about the limits of what we can know about another person's mind.
