YASHIMA Yugen is an author of award-winning stories. (Family names come first in Japanese.) He was born and raised in Japan. He received a full scholarship to study at the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales. He studied comparative culture at the University of Tsukuba. He received his MA at the University of Chicago. He won the ninth Sogen SF Short Story Prize for "Tenkuseyo Hosshoji" [Hosshoji the Rocket Temple] in 2018. He also won the fifth Nikkei Hoshi Awards Grand Prix and its prize money (a million yen) for "Final Anchors", as well as a merit prize for "Hasukuibito" [Lotus Eaters] in the same year. "Final Anchors" was later translated into Chinese. He writes stories of science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, and fusions of these.
