The book of Wisdom of Jesus the Son of Sirach, also called Ecclesiasticus, is the longest book of the deuterocanon. It was originally written in Hebrew, and fragments have been found among the Dead Sea Scrolls. It was later translated into Greek and added to the works of the Septuagint in the second century before Christ. This book helps to make the transition from the Old Testament to the New. It was well known and frequently alluded to by Jesus, the Apostles, and the Early Church. Many of the concepts are echoed in the Sermon on the Mount and other key teachings of Jesus Christ.

The early church in Corinth was falling apart. Sin was rampant, divisions were growing, and the congregation was living no differently than the world around them. What had corrupted this once vibrant church? The apostle Paul immediately understood the symptoms: The people had traded God's perfect wisdom for faulty human knowledge. Be Wise guides us through Paul's first letter to the Corinthians, where he encourages his fellow believers to embrace a life of wisdom and truth.

The wisdom of Solomon was part of the Greek Bible most often quoted by Jesus Christ and the Apostles. To what degree did Jesus and the Apostles regard the content of this book, and incorporate it in their teachings? The evidence is in the text itself. Conceptual themes are considered with respect to frequent allusions made throughout the New Testament.
