"City-Center", "Backshop", "Service-Point" - die klassischen Fälle von "Denglisch", wie es Sprachkritiker ebenso neudeutsch wie spöttisch nennen, sind vielen Sprachpuristen ein Dorn im Auge. Dabei ist der Einfluss einer fremden Sprache auf das Deutsche durchaus kein neues Phänomen. Für Karl-Wilhelm Weeber müsste es deshalb richtig heißen: "Denglatein". Denn mindestens die Hälfte des heftig umstrittenen "Denglisch" hat seinen Ursprung im Lateinischen. Wer also beispielsweise durch die denglische City geht, durchstreift im Grunde die lateinische civitas.
