These are simple yet compelling stories, told by ordinary, and some not so ordinary, people of Ireland; amazing tales, not only of ghosts, but of poltergeists, banshees, spirit-filled houses, ghostly carriages, animal spirits, and warnings of death. This work contains sections in which the author chronologically recounts individual legal cases involving witchcraft, citing about three instances in each section. He examines the reasonable explanations for the supernatural accusations, as well as the cultural us context that explains the fervor with which many of the supposed witches were persecuted.
