Mr. Tod is a fox that no one can call "nice", and Tommy Brock is a badger who frequently inhabits one or another of Mr. Tod's houses whenever he fancies. Tommy Brock steals all seven of Benjamin Bunny's baby rabbits while Old Mr. Bouncer, who was supposed to be watching them, was asleep. Benjamin sets off to find his babies and gets his cousin, Peter Rabbit, to help. Mr. Tod, Tommy Brock, Benjamin, and Peter all come together at Mr. Tod's house at the top of Bull Banks, where the trouble gets worse.

While Simpkin is out, the tailor discovers all the mice Simpkin has hidden under the teacups and accidentally frees them all. They run out of the house, but not before they overhear him speak aloud his fears that he will not be able to complete his work.

In "The Tale of Mr. Jeremy Fisher", a frog who lives in a slippy-sloppy house alongside a pond collects worms on a rainy day, and sets off on a lily-pad boat to go fishing. During this trip, he encounters all sorts of obstacles, including a large trout who tries to devour him.

In "The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin", a naughty squirrel and his many cousins sail to Owl Island on a mission to collect nuts. While obtaining permission from old Owl Brown, naughty Squirrel Nutkin disrespectfully dances around, singing a nonsensical song. As the collecting continues, Squirrel Nutkin's naughty antics only increase. Will old Owl Brown notice?

Little Peter Rabbit, ignoring his mother's warnings, enters the garden of Mr. MacGregor for a snack. When he is spotted by the angry Mr. MacGregor, the chase is on. Before long, Peter loses his jacket and shoes and must also sneak past a cat in order to get back home.
