This letter points Christians back to the gospel. “I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God that you may know that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:13) It encourages believers to live obedient lives in light of the salvation they have in Christ.

While under the Babylonian rulers, Daniel and his three fellow Judeans are being challenged for their faith. In the middle of every trial, however, God always comes through. In the final chapters of this book, Daniel prophecies about the end times, including the “seventy weeks prophecy”.

Humans are prone to amnesia. We easily forget what God has done for us because of an inward focus on ourselves. The Israelites did just this.
