One of the many important points that Dr. Hawkins stresses in this lecture is that in order to follow his Pathway of Devotional Non-Duality, your devotion to Truth has to be greater than the devotion to the payoff of being right. Talk #1: In this insightful session, Dr. Hawkins and his wife, Susan discuss the reality of life and its challenges. He stresses the importance of faith and prayer in daily living and how to maintain a spiritual awareness in life. Glamour, greed and human wants are also discussed. In addition, we are given a truth that we can use when life gets to be too much to handle. Dr. Hawkins also addresses the phrase "like goes to like" and the value of acceptance in one's life.

In this thorough explanation of the human ego, Dr. Hawkins points out that the difficulty with the mind is that it doesn't know the difference between that which is mental from that which "is". He explains that we can transcend the ego and reach the higher states of consciousness not by battling it, spending 30 years in psychotherapy or meditating forever, but by understanding its origin, its nature and its function. The ego then begins to dissolve on its own through compassion and acceptance because when you shine light on darkness, the darkness begins to disappear.

Dr. Hawkins opens this lecture by describing his intense drive to know the core of Truth and what it took to reach Enlightenment. He speaks to us from subjective awareness that the reality of the Presence within is the absolute silence. If you can get beyond the illusion of causality, you can jump into the 500s, where you see that everything is happening as a consequence of the totality, of the Infinite Power of the Field, and that nothing is causing anything. Our belief that there is a personal "I" that is the cause of everything is the major block to realizing the Self.

Stress results from our point of view, from what we hold in mind, as well as from our attitudes and beliefs. The source of stress is within ourselves and not out in the world. There is no escaping stress in the world, for it is self-created. Relief occurs from understanding its true cause. What is exhilarating to one person is debilitating to another. Dr. Hawkins describes methods of precluding stress rather than trying to alleviate its aftermath.

Dr. Hawkins begins this lecture by stating that our true purpose is to transcend from our original animal nature, otherwise known as the ego, to the realization of Divinity. He then guides us throughout this talk on how to allow the unfolding of this Truth. He explains our predicament: We have no idea where we came from, why we are here, who we are or where we are going. We are faced with the continuous uncertainty of life, everything we cling to is attacked and undermined by doubt within ourselves. However, the Presence of God as Self is the source of one's own existence.

In this lecture, Dr. Hawkins presents some basic ideas, such as the fact that everything happens spontaneously and that nothing causes anything. Everything is an automatic consequence of the energy field. He shows how the power of one’s intention brings about manifestation, and how potentiality becomes actuality in and of itself because of the field.
