The summer carnival has arrived at Ivory Beach, and Rory and her magical family are ready to enjoy the festivities. At least until a vampire shows up dead, a stake in his back, and a furious Evangeline sweeps in to take over the murder investigation. Edwin, head of the police, pleads with Rory to make her see reason, but the fearsome head of the local vampires refuses to be taken for a fool. Regardless, the murder brings to mind Rory's terrifying induction to the magical world, and the group of deadly vampires set on getting their hands on the library's deepest secrets.

With summer on the way, Rory is looking forward to relaxing at the beach between her latest set of magical exams. Rory's cousin Cass, who responds to anything involving magical beasts by instantly making friends with it, is the first to take an interest. But this beastie seems to have no intention of playing nice, and between her cousin's antics and Aunt Candace's unending hunt for a good story, Rory has her hands full trying to stop her relatives from running headlong into danger.

When Maura's date with Detective Drew Gardener is cut short after the body of a shifter shows up in a local park, she finds herself tasked with finding the shifter's ghost. Unfortunately, things are never that simple. First, the shifter's ghost doesn't show up. Then Maura finds herself in charge of training a new coworker at the inn as well as helping the local ghosts with their various problems. With tensions rising among factions of the local werewolf pack, this isn't the best time for Maura to get involved in solving a murder, too....

Can she find the culprit among the guests before another victim is claimed?

With the Easter Bunny demanding to be served fresh cabbage leaves every few hours and Cupid's arrows wreaking havoc among the staff, Carol finds her own potential love life on hold.

And then, to complicate matters, he’s the first to discover a dead body at the local karaoke club. As if defending a fictional character against a murder accusation isn’t enough, Rory also has to contend with someone spreading rumours that might lead to the library’s deepest secrets being exposed to the vampires hunting her family.

When a man shows up strangled by his own mummy costume, literally unmasking the killer among the guests proves to be the least of the polices problems. Between overbearing relatives trying to micromanage the investigation to inexplicable events in the library targeting Rory and her family, she finds herself wondering if there was more to the man's death than meets the eye.
