Die Briefe an einen jungen Dichter wurden aus der Veröffentlichung der übrigen Briefe ausgegliedert und diesen vorangestellt, weil sich die Herausgeberinnen erhofften, auf diesem Wege mehr Aufmerksamkeit für Rilkes moderne Haltung zur Orientierung im Leben zu erlangen, während sowohl der Kommunismus als auch der Nationalsozialismus an Boden gewannen.
