"Tarzan and the Jewels of Opar" is a novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the fifth in his series of twenty-four books about the title character Tarzan. It first appeared in the November and December issues of All-Story Cavalier Weekly in 1916, and the first book publication was by McClurg in 1918.

Tarzan's courtship of the female ape Teeka ends in failure when her preference turns to their mutual friend, the male ape Taug. Tarzan wrestles with his humanness versus his ape-ness. The allusion to Helen of Troy enriches the story, making Tarzan and Taug's fight over Teeka take on symbolic proportions. Stan Galloway writes: "when Burroughs chooses to name Helen as an objective correlative for Teeka, he expects both literal and emotional connections to occur." Tarzan's final claim of the story - "Tarzan is a man. He will go alone." - echoes the plight of Adam in the Garden of Eden.

It is populated by two dangerous species, Pirates and Therns.

The Warlords of Mars completes Edgar Rice Burroughs’ action-packed Barsoom Trilogy. In the attempt to rescue his wife Dejah Thoris from captivity, John Carter enters the northern polar regions of Mars where he discovers the previously unknown Yellow Martians of Okar under their tyrant Salensus Oll. The tyrant’s nephew Talu assists Carter to enter the realm, and a rebellion is followed by an invasion of the Heliumite fleet.

Die englisch-französische Firma Priscott & Company in Lokoja entsandte daraufhin einen Schürftrupp unter Leitung des erfahrenen George McCoy nach Zanaho. Einmal im Monat schickte Priscott eine Trägerkolonne mit Medikamenten, Lohngeldern, Lebensmitteln, Werkzeugen, Perlen und Stoffen von Lokoja aus nach Zanaho, wo inzwischen außer neun Weißen auch hundert Eingeborene arbeiten.

Lord und Lady Greystoke sind angesehene Mitglieder der Londoner Gesellschaft, und ihrem kleinen Sohn Jack, dem künftigen Lord of Greystoke, wird eine standesgemäße Erziehung zuteil. Zum Leidwesen des Kindermädchens aber gebärdet sich Jack oft recht wild. Er spielt Gorilla und erschreckt die Ärmste damit. Begeistert verschlingt er Berichte über Afrika, den Urwald und wilde Tiere. Lady Jane bemerkt das mit Sorge. Jack weiß nicht, dass seine Eltern noch unter anderen Namen bekannt sind, nämlich als Tarzan und Jane.

Omar Ben Dschali und Abdullha haben geplant, zwei Fliegen mit einer Klappe zu schlagen. Sie wollen nicht nur Waziris Krieger als Sklaven verschleppen, sondern auch den alten Waziri selbst, und zwar lebend und bei bester Gesundheit; denn sie hoffen von ihm das Geheimnis der toten Stadt zu erfahren. Er ist der letzte Überlebende jener sagenumwobenen Expedition, die vor vielen Jahren das Geheimnis der toten Stadt lüften konnte. Omar ben Dschali und seine Sklavenjäger ahnen nicht, dass ihnen auf diesem Weg ein entscheidendes Hindernis bevorsteht: Tarzan!

Tarzan war auf dem Weg zu einem befreundeten Stamm der Waziris. Neun Tage hatte er sich für diesen Weg vorgenommen. Doch bereits in der zweiten Nacht geschah es: Er wurde von einem furchtbaren Gewitter überrascht. Ein Blitz spaltete den Baum, in dessen Geäst er es sich zum Übernachten bequem gemacht hatte, und er wurde in die Tiefe geschleudert. Dank seiner ausgezeichneten körperlichen Verfassung und der Hilfe des Eingeborenen Orando überlebte er den Sturz.

Angosa war ein kleines, schmutziges Nest inmitten einer wilden, gefährlichen Umgebung, über 170 Meilen vom Sitz des Gouverneurs und fast 200 Meilen von der Küste entfernt. Ein Ort wie unzählige im westlichen Afrika. Und doch gab es einen Unterschied zu den meisten anderen: Angosa besaß eine kleine Militärstation, hatte einen Telegrafenposten und - ein Gefängnis. Chef der bescheidenen militärischen Streitmacht war Capitan Legrand.
