"Philosophy is not a theory," asserted Austro-British philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951), "but an activity." In this 1921 opus, his only philosophical work published during his lifetime, Wittgenstein defined the object of philosophy as the logical clarification of thoughts and proposed the solution to most philosophic problems by means of a critical method of linguistic analysis.

First published in 1962, Negroes with Guns is the story of a southern black community's struggle to arm itself in self-defense against the Ku Klux Klan and other racist groups. Frustrated and angered by violence condoned or abetted by the local authorities against blacks, the small community of Monroe, North Carolina, brought the issue of armed self-defense to the forefront of the civil rights movement.

Marcus Garvey's The Tragedy of White Injustice is a powerful indictment of white racism and colonialism. Garvey argues that the white race has a long history of oppressing and exploiting non-white people all over the world, and that white racism is not simply a matter of individual prejudice, but rather a deeply ingrained system of oppression that is maintained by white institutions and social structures.
