Summers in the Bayview housing development were a remarkable time to be a kid. Hell, it was a fantastic time to be most anyone. I didn’t realize it then, but there was just nothing better. I must admit, being a “busy kid”, that was not always to my delight. Black, White, cops, storeowners; all worked in unison to keep the community speaking in one voice and with one purpose, which was taking care of one another. I am not sure what makes a community come together in that way, but the inhabitants of Bayview made it happen; whatever the recipe, whatever the balance, the coming together of Bayview was almost near perfection.

As this and his previous works demonstrate, Vinny’s life has been devoted to family and the demise of corruption, this particular work delves into Vinny’s formative years growing up in the Bayview Housing Projects of Canarsie, Brooklyn, as a member of an African American family living in a predominately white housing development, which offered a well-stocked feeding trough in both hardy and at times, difficult to swallow formative meals in the nurturing and maturing of a corruption fighter.

The Rifle is a true story about just one of the exploits that Regina describes as one of the coolest men known to man - that would be Robert Green, father of Reverend Regina. As she describes him, her dad was an undisputed gift from God; take from that what you will. Regina was not yet in her teens when this adventure unfolded, and she always maintained a vivid memory of the day’s events that you are about to share in.
