At their home in Bayport Frank, Joe, and Fenton, receive a visitor who informs them that Professor Morgan Todd from Kenworthy College has disappeared. At the time Fenton is working on security for a coastal radar station, which is under construction. The boys visit the college and are informed that the professor is away in Europe. However, the boys become suspicious, and their investigations lead them to Honeycomb Caves in Rockaway, where they uncover a plot to disrupt the operation of the radar station.

The Missing Chums is the fourth book in the original Hardy Boys series. Chet and Biff, friends of Frank and Joe Hardy, depart for a long-planned boating excursion, but mysteriously disappear in a storm. The Hardy Boys fear the worst when they can find nothing but a small amount of wreckage along the course Chet and Biff were to follow. Suddenly, Frank and Joe's mother receives a ransom note—for them!

Anne has delayed her college ambitions to stay with Marilla at Green Gables after Matthew's passing. But when Marilla takes in a pair of twins, Anne must juggle her responsibilities at home, at Avonlea School, and at the local improvers' society.
