Seventeen-year-old honor student Kula Lockhart is a junior at Transylvanica High School in Harbor Heights, Michigan. It is one of several integrated pilot schools across the country where human and vampire students peacefully coexist. As the half human, half vampire daughter of Count Dracula, Kula has become a target of those who seek to destroy vampires, in spite of her vamp guardians, Ivan and Amelia, and Kula's own growing sense of self-preservation that she inherited from her father.

Opa Dracula ist in die Jahre gekommen. Er lebt nun als Rentner in seinem Schloss und erzählt seinen Enkeln, den Vampirkindern Pizzi und Morbi, jeden Abend von einem Vorfahren, der zur Zeit einer berühmten historischen Persönlichkeit lebte. Einst baute Luca Draculini Fernrohre, mit denen man sogar durch Mauern und um Ecken kucken konnte. Doch nun lebt der kauzige Weintraubenzüchter zurückgezogen auf einem Felsen bei Venedig. Als Galileo ein Problem mit dem Fernrohr hat, können die Kinder Luca Draculini überreden, wieder zu basteln...
