Simpatía is set in the Venezuela of Nicolas Maduro amid a mass exodus of the intellectual class who have been leaving their pets behind. Ulises Kan, the protagonist and a movie buff, receives a text message from his wife, Paulina, saying she is leaving the country (and him). Two other events end up disrupting his life even further: the return of Nadine, an unrequited love from the past, and the death of his father-in-law, General Martín Ayala.

Daniel, Hidalgo y Pito habían sido detenidos y torturados por la policía, acusados de matar ese verano a un policía y a un guardia civil. La condena se impuso sin juicio legal y de forma precipitada, después de una farsa militar en la que no hubo pruebas ni posibilidad de defensa. Junto a otras dos ejecuciones, aquellos jóvenes fueron los últimos fusilados por el Régimen.

When NASA scientists Phil Burt and Randi Li are tasked with finding a way to feed astronauts on a multiyear mission to Mars, it sounds like an impossible task. But the equally tenacious and intelligent duo succeed, and they quickly realize they are now holding the technology that can end world hunger as we know it. But government shutdowns are looming, and soon NASA's doors are slammed closed. Phil and Randi are told to shelve the innovation that could end so much suffering and pain.
