Reporter Tom Lambert decides to reinvestigate the bizarre events of a decade earlier concerning the ‘cosmic noise’. Believing the whole truth was never revealed, he tracks down the one man who knows it: retired astrophysics professor Dr Hayward Petrie. Told in flashbacks, the story unfolds from Petrie’s recordings of the time when he experienced things that made him doubt his own sanity. Invited to visit his old colleague Campbell McLaren, who is in charge of a radio telescope on a remote Hebridean island, Petrie asks students Clifford Brown and Elizabeth Ryder to join him.

The year is 2229 and Jack Peterson has terminal cancer. He's a dead man walking until his doctor gives him a way out. If he's willing to give up his entire life, he can travel for 800 years in stasis to planet Epigog 31 to receive treatment. With no other options available, he agrees. Once there, he discovers that aliens exist and they are allies with humanity. But there's a catch to receiving treatment: While his body heals, he must act as muscle for the aliens. His conscious mind is uploaded into a mechanical battle unit and he is sent to train for warfare.

In the year 2245, Mars has already been occupied by humans, and digital currencies and self-flying spaceships are being used. Mark's lead role is a space explorer where he sets out on a suicide space mission through the black hole. He then finds himself caught in a different universe where there is full-blown war between two different planets. A futuristic space war between two different planets in an alien galaxy continue while Max finds himself between life and death as he faces an identity crisis of being half-human and half-alien.
