Newlyweds Lisa and John's summer drive through the Oregonian wilderness takes a chilling turn when an unexpected blizzard traps their car. Desperate for refuge, they find hope in a sign: WELCOME TO__. Bundling up, they trek through the storm and find that, within the town, the blizzard ceases, though it rages just beyond the town's limits. The streets are eerily quiet, lined with lifelike ice statues. Lisa and John soon realize they are being watched by the wary townsfolk, who reveal a haunting truth: this town is a prison, and the storm is a trap.

When adventurer Bowen Tyler is taken aboard an enemy submarine, he never dreams that his voyage will end in a land where time itself is prisoner. But in the uncharted seas at the bottom of the world, Tyler and the crew of the U-33 discover the mysterious forgotten continent of Caspak, where the savage denizens of a thousand lost ages roam vast primeval jungles.

The story begins in the midst of World War I, in the middle of naval attacks between the armies of various nations. On a submarine that had been captured in the English Channel, the combatants from several countries fight for the ownership of the vessel. After a series of unfortunate circumstances, the submarine is sent off-course into the South Pacific and then is even further rerouted to Antarctica.
