Deep in Louisiana's marshlands, where mist rises from ancient waters and Spanish moss whispers secrets in the wind, mysterious lights have danced for millennia. The Cajuns call them fifolet. Scientists call them marsh gas combustion. But for the people who've lived alongside these phenomena for generations, they're something far more profound—messengers from the spirit world, guides through treacherous waters, and the eternal call of home. LIGHTS IN THE DARKNESS explores the fascinating intersection where folklore meets physics, where ancestral wisdom encounters modern science.

Story1
“May God forgive me for the order”, Confederate Maj. Gen. John C. Breckinridge remarked as he ordered young cadets from Virginia military institute into the battle lines at New Market, just days after calling them from their academic studies to assist in a crucial defense. Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley had seen years of fighting. In the spring of 1864, Union Maj. Gen. Franz Sigel prepared to lead a new invasion force into the Valley, operating on the far right flank of Ulysses S. Grant’s Overland Campaign. Breckinridge scrambled to organize the confederate defense.

Story1
Caliph Washington's life was never supposed to matter. As a Black teenager from the vice-ridden city of Bessemer, Alabama, Washington was wrongfully convicted of killing an Alabama policeman in 1957. Sentenced to death, he came within minutes of the electric chair - nearly a dozen times. A Kafka-esque legal odyssey in which Washington's original conviction was overturned three times before he was finally released in 1972, his story is the kind that pervades the history of American justice.
