George saved me from a life of crime that would have landed me in jail. Now I commit even worse crimes that would earn me the death penalty if I ever got caught. George has me under his thumb. "The Beasts of Tarzan" is a novel by American writer Edgar Rice Burroughs, the third in his series of twenty-four books about the title character Tarzan. Originally serialized in All-Story Cavalier magazine in 1914, the novel was first published in book form by A. C. McClurg in 1916.

This story picks up a year after the end of The Return of Tarzan and finds Tarzan and Jane together with a son, beginning to build a life together in Africa. But of course, Tarzan doesn't stay out of danger for long, and soon his previous enemies are back to haunt him and kidnap his son. As the villains carry out their evil plan, Tarzan has to rely on his jungle upbringing and team up with the beasts of the jungle to rescue his beloved family.

But Tarzan assembles an awesome rescue squad; Mugambi, a giant native from the jungle who becomes the devoted follower and protector of Tarzan; Sheeta, a sleek and powerful black panther longing to apply fang and claw to those who would harm Jane; and the entire tribe of Akut, of the great apes, enraged and eager.

The Beast in the Jungle is a 1903 novella by Henry James, first published in the collection titled The Better Sort. The story addresses themes like fate, loneliness, love and death. The protagonist, John Marcher, anticipates an event that he believes will set him apart from other people. Marcher is frozen by his fears and a sense of impending doom. A haunting tale of egotism, fear of the unknown and unrequited love, the story warns that the only thing one has to fear is fear itself. John’s failure to reciprocate May Bartram’s love condemns him.
