Creatures of all kinds go to the Barista to find love, including the incubus known as Dante. Dante wants to find his soul mate—someone that won’t scream when they see his horns, his tail, and his…other thing. Thousands of years of seduction and power, and he still can’t fill the hole in his heart. When the Barista sets Dante up with a human named Peter, he realizes that he’s never wanted anyone else more. Peter is resistant, though, especially when it comes to the L word. Dante has his work cut out for him if he’s going to finally get his own little slice of hell.

Written in the Southern vernacular, A Slice of the Watermelon Moon is an intimate portrayal of August, the rough Jewish trucker from West Virginia, and Cecil, the obsessive gay narrator, raised on a small family farm and living in Athens, Georgia. It’s an unusual, authentic Southern “slice” of time. Each vignette, gathered from the narrator’s past and present, carries the listener on a quirky journey that’s as real as a personal diary.

I can’t say for sure that I adopted my rescue dog so I had an excuse to see Bettie at the dog park again. But if I’m being honest with you, or myself, that was definitely part of the reason I did. So when I ran into her after just a week of trekking uptown to our old haunt with my new mutt, I was thrilled to see her again. Even better, she seemed happy to see me, too.
