"La princesa y el granuja" es una de las irrupciones de Benito Pérez Galdós en lo fantástico. Dejando a un lado el humor de otras obras, aunque no una fina ironía, el autor nos ofrece su propia versión de Pigmalión a través de Pacorrito Migajas, un niño pobre que vive en la calle y está perdidamente enamorado de una muñeca que ve en el escaparate de una tienda cercana a la Puerta del Sol de Madrid. A partir de esta sencilla premisa, el cuento nos introduce en un mundo fantástico poblado por juguetes a través de una mirada tierna no exenta de crudeza.
