Jack und Cliff sind entsetzt: Der beliebte Lehrer Mr. Wilson erscheint nicht zum Unterricht und niemand weiß, wo er steckt. Hatte er einen Unfall? Oder wurde er vielleicht sogar entführt? Jack und Cliff nehmen die Suche auf und finden den Mustang von Mr. Wilson verlassen am Straßenrand. Die Spuren deuten auf einen Kampf hin.

Jack und Cliff stöbern in der Vergangenheit des Colleges. Sie vermuten, dass der Unfall, bei dem ein Student in den Tod stürzte, vielleicht ein Mord ist. Bei ihren Nachforschungen finden sie in der Bibliothek alte Baupläne, auf denen ein Geheimgang eingezeichnet ist, der in den Glockenturm führt. Hat sich vielleicht damals jemand durch diesen Gang geschlichen, um den Studenten über die Brüstung zu stürzen?

Auf dem Campus der Morgan State University, die Cliffs Bruder Edward besucht, spukt es. Nachts ertönt mahnend die dunkle Glocke aus dem abgelegenen Glockenturm. Aber niemand ist dort! Jack und Cliff besuchen Edward in Baltimore und versuchen, das Rätsel zu lösen. Dabei stoßen sie auf ein schlimmes Ereignis in der Vergangenheit: Ein Student kam bei einem Sturz vom Glockenturm ums Leben. Ist es sein Geist, der jetzt die Glocke läutet?
