Rainer Maria Rilke wurde am 4. Dezember 1875 in Prag-Neustadt geboren. Rilkes Prosatext "Notizen zur Melodie der Dinge" entstand vermutlich im Herbst 1898. Er besteht aus 40 Teilen, die mit römischen Zahlen nummeriert sind. "Ich kann mir kein seligeres Wissen denken, als dieses Eine: daß man ein Beginner werden muß. Einer der das erste Wort schreibt hinter einen jahrhundertelangen Gedankenstrich."
