New Lanark was one of the largest cotton manufacturing centers in Great Britain, and a model for how employees, both adults and their children were treated by the companies they worked for. Today, New Lanark is a model of cultural heritage, preservation and restoration thanks to the New Lanark Conservation Trust. The Baltimore Clipper ship Frolic was bound from Canton, China, to San Francisco with household goods for gold miners. The shipwreck of the Frolic lead to the founding of the town of Mendocino, California, and the discovery of redwood trees. We speak with archeologists who are studying this important early California event. The Frolic Shipwreck is now a California Underwater State Park.
