After the last American troops leave Vietnam, siblings Anh, Thanh, and Minh begin a perilous journey to Hong Kong with the promise that their parents and younger siblings will soon follow. But when tragedy strikes, the three children are left orphaned, and sixteen-year-old Anh becomes the caretaker for her two younger brothers overnight. In the years that follow, Anh and her brothers resettle in the UK and confront their new identities as refugees, first in camps and resettlement centers and then, later, in a London plagued by social inequality and anti-immigrant sentiment.

Based on true events, this author/narrator takes you on a disturbing ride as she shares her story of generational trauma and dysfunction. Presented in a matter of fact approach, this weave of tales is understandable and unbelievable. The behaviors of her siblings, parents and grandparents sets the stage as we are introduced to her family’s manipulation and continuous plotting and truth twisting. Each character gives the listener an inside view of how they embraced and expressed their emotional and social deficiencies and used them as a method of control, abuse, and extreme cruelty.

She didn’t know her life would change forever that day. She only knew it was cold, and something was not quite right about the room she was walking into. She couldn’t escape - every fiber in her being was telling her to run, yet she had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. She could only sit and watch someone take their last breaths. She made her choices and knew they weren’t all the right ones.
