Story0
In November 1838, Frederic Chopin settled in an abandoned monastery at Valldemossa in the mountains above Palma, where he finished what would eventually be recognized as one of the great and revolutionary works of musical Romanticism: his 24 Preludes. There was scarcely a decent piano on the island, so Chopin worked on a small pianino made by a local craftsman, Juan Bauza. Chopin's Piano traces the history of Chopin's 24 Preludes through the instruments on which they were played, the pianists who interpreted them, and the traditions they came to represent.

In this podcast, I introduce musical instruments I have made myself, using objects I found in and around the house. This is in keeping with the folk tradition where people make instruments from whatever is available. You can make your own instruments,as well! This podcast is designed to inspire you. What you make and how you make it is up to you. Factory-made instruments tend to be made a certain way, using specific materials and methods. The folk tradition allows for a lot more creativity and flexibility. When it comes to drums made by a craftsperson, for example, no two drums are exactly ...
