1348, die Pest wütet in Italien: Sieben Frauen und drei Männer flüchten sich gemeinsam auf ein Landgut in den Hügeln von Florenz. Fernab der Stadt geben sich die Freunde Spielen und Tanz hin und erzählen einander frivole Geschichten von glücklich Verliebten, gehörnten Ehemännern und listigen Frauen.
