If asked to list all the folks in Darling, Montana I can’t stand, I’d have a single name. Noah King. He’s the second-best farrier in town (me being the first). A royal pain in my behind. And an all-around smug pest I wouldn’t mind knocking down a peg or two. It’s no surprise after so many years, our animosity has come to a head. I just never in my wildest, hate-fueled fantasies expected Noah’s attack to involve his lips on mine. It was a mistake, no question. But apparently I still have some things to figure out about myself.

Meg Tallmadge is a veterinarian at a clinic in Laramie, Wyoming. She’s got a great job, great friends, deep ties to the family ranch, and big plans for her vet future. Sure, there are bumps in the road, like her mom’s continued denial about who Meg is and her painful and infuriating attempts to make Meg a “proper” woman. Then there’s Meg’s recent breakup with a girlfriend, which has her wondering why she can’t seem to open up to relationships.

Once upon a time, in a far away long ago country that used to exist next door to France, was a small village with a mill for grinding wheat and grain. The miller’s business did well enough, for the people in the village loved to buy all manner of bread and rolls and pastry. The miller’s wife had given him three fine sons. As these things happen, one day the miller passed away, leaving his oldest sons the mill and his horse and cart.
