During their last adventure, Zak Nine and Erro found a mapping device in a crashed Prison ship. Following the map, the boys make their way to the Plateau of Leng, a vast desert on Planet Alcatraz. Other than an occasional giant scorpion, the boys seem to be safe on the endless sands until they spring a deadly trap! Huge rocky walls spring up from beneath the sand, grinding against each other and forming into walls, passageways, and stone cages.

Eleven-year-old Lucy Nightingale is a special little girl. She can make things with her thoughts. However, she lost her confidence when her mind went blank during an oral report. Then a dazzling new teacher assigns another report about five paintings. Convinced that the only way to get an "A" on this assignment is to actually talk to the artists, Lucy summons a Wise One, Wilbur, to help her with time travel to 15th-century Florence. The journey turns perilous when the Navigator, Wilbur's magical time travel gadget, contracts a virus and propels the two friends into the wrong time.
