When Mia Baker begins at an elite school on a scholarship, she's instantly besotted with the hot but arrogant Finn Davis. But when she overhears him commenting on her attractiveness compared to her beautiful sister Jade, Mia takes an instant dislike to him. When Finn's best friend Charlie takes an interest in Jade and invites both sisters to his family's lake house for the weekend, Mia and Finn are forced into close proximity.

In this mix of serious topics and humour, Becky Bexley is in her second year of university, at the age when most children are just starting secondary school. She does voluntary work for a new blind student called Barbara who needs people to read her study material to her. They strike up a friendship, often have a laugh together, and Becky meets her brother and some of her disabled friends. They all tell her about their experiences of living with disabilities, a few of them amusing.

Child genius Becky Bexley helps to organise a lot of fun at the university she studies at, including a humorous game in front of an audience for charity. She also turns out to have a talent for stand-up comedy, surprising perhaps, since she's only about eleven. Alcohol comes up for discussion one day as students talk about embarrassing things they did while drunk and the harmful effects of alcohol on the body, while Becky mostly listens in.
