Habile braconnier, mais aussi défenseur des pauvres et des opprimés, il détroussait les riches. Ensuite, avec ses compagnons, notamment Frère Tuck (le moine) et Petit Jean, il redistribuait ensuite le butin aux pauvres. Sa fiancée s'appelle Marianne.
