Social media has become a central part of everyday life, and very few people with smartphones completely avoid it. Companies, politicians, and media outlets now rely on platforms like Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok to promote and distribute information, highlighting their significant social influence.

In recent years, generative AI has further fueled activity on these platforms. AI-generated content is widely posted and attracts large numbers of impressions. In September 2025, both OpenAI and Meta announced new platforms dedicated to creating and sharing AI-generated video.

However, new data suggests that social media may have already passed its peak. According to a Financial Times analysis of GWI data from more than 250,000 people across over 50 countries, global social media usage time peaked in 2022 and has been steadily declining since then.

この数年は生成AIという新たなツールが普及したが、それもソーシャルメディアをさらに活況にしているように見える。既存のプラットフォームに生成AIで作られたコンテンツが投稿され、多くのインプレッションを得ているだけではない。2025年9月には、OpenAIとMetaが相次いで「生成AI動画の作成と投稿」に特化した場を作ると発表した。

しかし、ソーシャルメディアそのものは、もはや人気の絶頂にあるわけではなく、衰退の曲がり角を曲がった可能性があることがわかった。

Most of Japanese people clearly identify themselves as “Japanese,” Okinawa stands out as a region where many—indeed, a majority—hold an alternative national identity, specifically that of being “Okinawan (Uchinaanchu).” The authors point out that, based on its historical background and geographic distinctiveness, Okinawa is virtually the only region within Japan where people assert a national identity distinct from “Japanese.”

先日出版された『復帰50年の沖縄世論』では、沖縄が日本復帰50周年を迎えた2022年9月に実施された、県内在住の有権者約3,800名（18歳〜80歳）を対象とした大規模世論調査（以下「2022年調査」）の結果、同書では、日本社会では「単一民族国家」という神話が根強く残り、多くの人々が「日本人」というナショナル・アイデンティティをはっきり認識しているのに対し、沖縄では「日本人」以外のナショナル・アイデンティティ──具体的には「沖縄人（ウチナーンチュ）」といった意識を持つ人が少なくないどころか多数派であり、歴史的経緯や地理的特性などに基づいて「日本人」とは異なるナショナル・アイデンティティを主張しうる、国内ではほぼ唯一の地域であると指摘しています。

『連続ドラマＷ　フェンス』：
