• # 3 Anastasyia Volkovo tells us why time stood still in Ukraine on 24 February
    Apr 6 2022
     Anastasyia Volkova

Welcome to the 3rd episode of this podcast "all about Community". Thank you for the great and helpful feedback I have already received.
The war in Ukraine is now in its sixth week and no one knows how the situation will develop. Already at the end of March I was lucky enough to talk to Anastasyia Volkova. She lives in the ecovillage Zeleni Kruchi, pretty much in the middle of Ukraine and she told me how she experienced the first days of the war, why time stood still in Ukraine on 24 February and what has changed for her as a young mother but also as a permaculture and ecovillage activist since then.

  • #2 Iryna Kazakova shares her experiences from Kharkiv and why solidarity is so important
    Mar 29 2022
Iryna KazakovaIn this 2nd podcast, I talk with Iryna Kazakova. Iryna lived in Kharkiv until recently, but immediately after the war began she moved to her mother in the surrounding area. She tells us what she had to leave behind, but also what is much more important than the material things. Iryna gives us a small insight into what people in Ukraine have to endure right now and how hard it is not to know if close friends or relatives are still alive. But she also takes us to the work she is doing right now. How the Ukrainian Permaculture Network and the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN)-Ukraine are working together and how important it is to feel solidarity from outside.

  • #1 Maksym Zalevski talks about GEN-Ukraine
    Mar 27 2022
In this first podcast, I talk with Maksym Zalevski. Maksym is not only a board member of GEN-Ukraine, but one of the activists from the very beginning. He will tell us what the "Green Road" is, how people in the communities started to help refugees inside Ukraine after a short time and why greenhouses and why working in the fields is also important for the psyche.

  • All about community - Trailer
    Mar 24 2022
Actually, everything was planned quite differently. For a long time, I wanted to make a podcast and talk with friends from communities, ecovillages, and communes about the many beautiful sides and also about the challenges in community life. Because German is my mother tongue, it was also clear that this podcast should be in German. But then everything turned out quite differently. On February 24, 2022, the war in Ukraine began and my involvement with GEN-Europe focused on supporting friends in Ukraine from the community environment and the permaculture movement. As a member of the GEN-Europe coordination team I had regular contact with Iryna, Anastasyia, Maksim and Taras, and others from Ukraine, but also with Camilla from Denmark, Charlie from Spain, Riccardo from Italy, and many more, who were all involved in Ukraine and so it was obvious to take up my podcast idea again and simply report about this work, which of course also has a lot to do with communities. So the idea for the podcast "all about community" was born and since most of the interviewees don't speak German I decided to start a podcast in English as well.
So now there are two podcasts."All about community" exclusively in English and "Was mit Gemeinschaft" in which I also publish the English podcasts (in the hopeful assumption that most of the German-speaking listeners also speak English) and in which I also want to publish podcasts in German in the future. In addition, there is "All about communities" for all English-speaking people who are interested in life and work around the communities in Ukraine. We will see how the whole thing will develop. In any case, I am curious.
