About this listen

Good evening. Vermont. I'm Aaron Jolly. That gray ceiling at 31 degrees? It's holding its breath. We've got a messy evening inbound, folks. And it's bringing a little bit of everything. Snow pushes in statewide right around 8 P.M. but here's the catch — it doesn't stay snow for long. In the next 24 hours. Southern Vermont, you're the first to see the switch. Around 9 P.M., that snow turns traitor, flipping to sleet and freezing rain overnight. You'll pick up an inch of snow before the slush takes over. It's a slippery mix down to 28 degrees. The Winter Weather Advisory stays active until 5 A.M. Wednesday, so watch those steps. Head north and things stay wintry longer. Central Vermont holds onto snow through midnight. You're looking at a solid one to three inches, with lows near 29 degrees. Up in the Northeast Kingdom, the pattern holds — snow until 1 A.M., another one to three inches. And temperatures dipping to about 25. You'll feel the chill more too, with wind chills hitting 23 by 9 P.M. but don't worry, tomorrow brings redemption. Sunshine returns and highs rebound nicely. The south hits 41, central areas climb to 46. And the northeast reaches 43. That puts us about 19 degrees above normal — a real taste of early spring. Looking ahead, the week ends on a wild note. We're watching another round of freezing rain Thursday night into Friday, mainly for southern areas. Then the thermostat gets stuck on "high." We're talking 50s this weekend, potentially nearing 60 by Tuesday. That kind of warmth plus rain? We'll be keeping a close eye on rivers for ice jams. For tonight, plan on a slick commute after 8 P.M. Take it slow on the roads. For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves. Take care That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
