  • Gender Affirming Surgeries
    Jun 30 2026
Host: Host: Ez (he/him) This week on Tranzmission, Ez (he/him) sits down with Associate Professor Nicola Dean (she/her), one of Australia’s most respected reconstructive surgeons and a leading voice in improving access to gender‑affirming healthcare. Nicola’s career spans decades of surgical excellence and advocacy. As former President of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), Nicola has worked at the forefront of strengthening surgical standards and pushing for equitable access to care including gender‑affirming surgeries (GAS). Nicola and Ez unpack: What gender‑affirming surgery actually looks like in Australia right now, The realities of the surgical workforce and pathways into this specialty, Common myths, misinformation, and disinformation surrounding GAS, The future of gender‑affirming care in Australia, Ongoing advocacy to get GAS included on the MBS (Medicare Benefits Schedule). They also discuss the latest developments with the MSAC application and why community input matters — you can read the report and make a submission here. A big, thoughtful, and nuanced conversation about surgery, systems, and the future of gender‑affirming care in Australia. AusPATH Updates Project 491 continues to grow — now supporting 48 families, with over $54,000 already provided in direct assistance. If you know someone impacted by the Queensland Government’s ban on access to gender‑affirming care, they can be referred for support. • Evolution of Self
    Jun 23 2026
Host: Ez (he/him) w/ Special Guests Dylan Holloway (he/him) and Acton Wickens (he/him) This week on a special STEREO show of Tranzmission, Ez sits down with a truly singular artist: UK‑based singer‑songwriter Dylan Holloway (he/him), known to audiences as Dylan and the Moon. Dylan’s work spans a rich catalogue of original music and reimagined covers, but what sets him apart is his ability to braid his personal journey into his sound. As a transgender musician, he’s crafted haunting duets between his pre‑transition and post‑transition vocals—melding past and present into an intimate exploration of identity, memory and transformation. Ez and Dylan dive into his creative process, the vocal techniques that supported him through medical transition, and his reflections on the current climate for trans people, especially trans youth in the UK. Joining Ez in the studio is returning special guest Acton Wickens (he/him) [See Ep: Recall Receive Releasing Friday], local singer‑songwriter, who brings his own lived experience of transition and vocal change to the conversation. Together, they chat about artistry, the mechanics and the emotion behind trans voices evolving over time including his new song Heaven Only Knows which came out on the 19th of June. Plus, we bring you the week in community news and events—everything happening across Meanjin’s queer and trans spaces. • What the NDIS!?
    Jun 2 2026
Host: Host: Ez (he/him) Tranzmission returns this week with Ez (he/him) sitting down with Matilda Alexander, CEO of Queensland Advocacy for Inclusion, to break down the sweeping changes proposed for the NDIS. Matilda explains in clear, grounded terms who will be most affected by the shift to stricter functional‑capacity assessments, what it means for trans and gender‑diverse people with disability trying to access disability supports, and why the new legislation hands extraordinary executive powers to the Federal Health Minister to decide who can and cannot enter the Scheme. It’s a conversation about rights, transparency, and the real‑world consequences of policy decisions made far from the communities they impact. Ez also speaks with Annabelle Oxley (she/her), a trans woman, NDIS participant and long‑time advocate, who shares how these reforms land on the ground for LGBTQ+ disabled people already navigating discrimination in mainstream services. Annabelle’s lived experience cuts through the political noise, reminding listeners that behind every policy shift is someone’s daily support, safety, and autonomy. Listeners who want to have their say can make a submission to the Senate at here. You can also contact the submission team via phone +61 2 6277 3515 or email - community.affairs.sen@aph.gov.au submissions closed COB June 1. 🔗 If you'd like to listen back to the unedited episode - with the music - head to our On Demand website. • Community is The Antidote: We Have What We Need to Survive
    May 15 2026
Hosts: Ez (he/him) w/ Special Guest Fae Weichsel (she/her) This week on Tranzmission, Ez (he/him) speaks with New York City–based correspondent Fae Weichsel (she/her) for a powerful conversation on trans survival, resistance, and hope in the United States. Together, they unpack the current political climate shaped by the rise of Trumpism and the MAGA movement, and what it means for trans communities navigating a wave of restrictive legislation across multiple states. The conversation traces the long history of trans resistance from the Stonewall uprising to today with a particular focus on the vital leadership, resistance, and community care, not to forget the work of Black trans women throughout the US queer liberation movement. But this episode doesn’t stop at crisis. We Have What We Need to SURVIVE is about turning toward each other sharing tools, knowledge, and strategies for collective care, resistance, survival, and joy. Ez and Fae explore how chosen family, underground networks, resource sharing, and storytelling have long acted as forms of community defence, sustaining trans life across generations. Throughout the episode, Fae also reshares a powerful speech she delivered at a vigil several years ago, reflecting on grief, solidarity, and the ongoing fight for trans liberation. Together, they examine how mutual aid, community wisdom, and trans-led organising continue to build power and create futures beyond fear — futures still filled with joy, love, and possibility. This is an episode about truth, solidarity, and above all — hope. • Breaking Tortillas Together: Race, Racism, Gender & Community
    May 1 2026
Host: Ez (he/him) w/ Special Guests Piece Kent (he/him) and Angel Ixchel Pineda (she/her) This week on Tranzmission, we’re holding space for a powerful conversation on race, racism, gender, and community — centering the lived experiences of CALD trans and gender diverse people. We’re joined by Pierce Kent founder of gender affirming underwear brand Dys4ick and Angel Ixchel Pineda, local burlesque performer and comic, who share their stories, cultural perspectives, and reflections on navigating identity at the intersection of race and gender. Ez also reads a poem and a short essay from When Language Broke Open: An Anthology of Queer and Trans Black Writers of Latin American Descent, bringing in additional voices that speak to culture, identity, and resistance. Together, we unpack how racism and transphobia show up — both in broader society and within LGBTQIA+ spaces — and explore conversations around whiteness, white fragility, and accountability in community reading from “What is white fragility and why white trans women adopt it” by Tara Knight. This episode also makes space for care, cultural connection, and what it means to build solidarity and repair. This is an honest, reflective, and necessary conversation about how we show up for each other and what it takes to create communities that are truly inclusive, supportive, and accountable. 🔗 If you'd like to listen back to the unedited episode - with the music - head to our On Demand website.
