What happens when a sheriff sees inmates not as lost causes—but as people capable of restoration?

In this episode of TheoDodos, Rob sits down with Floyd County Sheriff Steve Bush for a conversation about law enforcement, faith, leadership, addiction recovery, second chances, and the surprising power of grace behind bars.

Sheriff Bush shares stories from more than three decades in law enforcement, including his time as a detective, marathon runner, county commissioner, and now sheriff. But at the heart of the conversation is something deeper: the belief that no one should be defined by their worst moment.

From baptisms inside the jail to stories of changed lives, this episode explores what it means to lead with compassion while still holding people accountable.

And yes… there’s also discussion of Boston marathons, police cruisers, and gummy bears.

    About the Guest

Steve Bush is the Sheriff of Floyd County, Indiana, and a longtime law enforcement officer with more than 30 years of experience. Known for his focus on mentorship, rehabilitation, and servant leadership, Sheriff Bush has helped implement programs aimed at addiction recovery, education, and faith-based restoration within the jail system.

In this episode of TheoDodos, we’re joined by Matt Allman—pastor, teacher, and master of the chicken wing—as we unpack what it means to follow Jesus in a divided and skeptical world. From his early days finding faith at a Young Life camp to planting churches in San Diego and serving at Northside Christian Church, Matt shares powerful stories of friendship, failure, and Holy Spirit-led moments that shape a life of ministry.

    We dig into:

    • What unity in the modern church really looks like
    • Why relational evangelism beats the “Jesus juke” every time
    • How to love people without compromising the gospel
    • The importance of just being a good neighbor (and grilling good wings)

Whether you’re a skeptic, seeker, or seasoned believer, this conversation will challenge and encourage you to rethink how we engage culture with grace and truth.
