In 1920s America, one woman dominated two sports simultaneously – yet her name was erased from history.
Ora Washington won 23 African American national tennis titles and 11 consecutive Coloured Women’s World Championships in basketball. She was arguably America’s greatest Black female athlete, yet almost nobody knows it.
The Unacclaimed travels back to the sounds and textures of early 20th-century America to ask: how do extraordinary legacies disappear? This is a story about forgetting and why some names deserve to be spoken again.
