This is your safe space, where we provide an emphasis on three things….learning, growing, and healing. It takes a village. Each week, we'll discuss the intersectionality between the chosen topic, and how it impacts us and the communities we share. This way, we hold valuable conversations that easily translate to our personal lives and the people we care about. For Black History Month, we are taking a pause to focus on issues that concern not only our community, but those who intend to strip away the knowledge of what these stories represent. Black history is OUR history. Let’s do the work.🖤Jay Social Sciences

    Feb 20 2026

Today, we welcome the multi-talented Ms. Ashly Emile, to lead us in the ongoing conversation about Black maternal health. We explore the historical context, current challenges, and the importance of community engagement in addressing healthcare disparities. Ashly shares her personal experiences and insights from her research on Black maternal health, including the Black Maternal Health Momnibus Act. The question: how can we emphasize the need for support, education, and advocacy for Black women?

The Kira Johnson Act leads us to also highlight the role of Black men in this movement. Lastly, we conclude with a call to action for listeners to engage in meaningful discussions and support initiatives that promote health equity while fighting these disparities in creative ways that make hard conversations, into more peaceful scenarios in our world.
