The Newsman Podcast is about the people who lived the stories — journalists, filmmakers, storytellers, and the fascinating professionals who shaped the world one deadline, one frame, and one decision at a time.

Hosted by Emmy-nominated filmmaker Travis Boles, the show is inspired by his father Kenny Boles — a 47-year broadcast news veteran who started at 17 at KTRE in Lufkin, Texas, rose to Managing Editor at KNBC-TV Los Angeles covering the O.J. Simpson trial, the Rodney King riots, and the Michael Jackson investigation, and came home to East Texas to spend 22 years building the next generation of journalists as News Director at KLTV. He was inducted into the Lone Star Emmy Silver Circle for lifetime achievement in 2016. He passed away in 2018.

  • The O.J. Chase, Michael Jackson's Raid & My Dad | The Newsman Podcast Ep. 1
    Jun 24 2026

In Episode 1, Travis Boles sits down with veteran NBC4 Los Angeles reporter Conan Nolan to talk about his 30+ years on the front lines of L.A. news — and his memories of working alongside Travis's father, David "Kenny" Boles.

They cover the tip that led to the LAPD raid on Michael Jackson's Neverland Ranch, Conan's firsthand account of driving in front of the O.J. Simpson Bronco chase while talking Kenny through the coverage from inside the newsroom, and what it felt like to walk into NBC Burbank for the first time — Johnny Carson upstairs, Carlos Santana in the commissary.

They also get into how journalism — and the business behind it — has changed since.

This podcast is a tribute to Kenny Boles, a 45-year broadcast newsman, anchor, investigative reporter, and news director who passed away in 2018.
