• You're Undercharging. Here's Why — And What to Do About It
    Jun 28 2026

Most photography business advice tells you to "know your worth." Nobody tells you why you don't charge it.

In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie gets into the four real reasons photographers undercharge — and none of them are as simple as "just put your prices up."

    We're covering:

    — Not knowing your actual costs (and why running a photography business in the UK means you need to)

    — The fear of losing the booking and what it's actually costing you

    — Why pricing against other photographers is one of the worst business decisions you can make

    — Imposter syndrome — why it doesn't go away with experience, and why you can't let it set your rates

This isn't a fluff episode. If you're a UK photographer — freelance, studio-based, wedding, portrait, commercial, or anything in between — and you've ever second-guessed your pricing, apologised for your rates, or quietly wondered if you're actually making any money, this one is for you.

Straightforward. No nonsense. No guru waffle.

  • Would You Call It Art If You Found It On His Phone?
    Jun 24 2026

Over three thousand photographs of women. Taken without their knowledge. Without their consent. Some of them upskirt shots. Started, by his own admission, as a joke to share with mates on WhatsApp.

Then a curator got involved. And a publisher. And Rolling Stone. And a prestigious Milan gallery. And suddenly it was art.

This week, Italian photographer Ray Banhoff resurfaced to talk proudly about Fie, a project he made between 2012 and 2015 (approx). And the internet caught up with what was actually in those photographs.

But this episode isn't a pile-on. Because if we focus only on the man, we let the system off the hook. And the system is where the real story is.

Who decides what's art? Who gets handed the keys to legitimacy, and why? What does it say about our industry that the same photographs found on a stranger's phone would have us calling the police, but put in a gallery get a glowing write-up?

That's what we're getting into today.

  • Photographers: GEO Explained – The AI Marketing Strategy Replacing Traditional SEO
    Jun 21 2026

AI is changing how potential clients find photographers, and most photographers haven't realised what's happening.

In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie Rees breaks down GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) and explains why photographers need to start thinking beyond traditional SEO if they want to remain visible online.

As platforms like ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity become part of everyday search behaviour, clients are no longer just typing "photographer near me" into Google. They're asking detailed questions about wedding photographers, family photographers, portrait photographers and specialist photography services — and AI is deciding who gets recommended.

    This episode covers:

📸 What GEO (Generative Engine Optimisation) actually is

📸 The difference between GEO and traditional SEO

📸 How AI search engines find and recommend photographers

📸 Why most photography websites are invisible to AI

📸 How photography blogs, case studies and FAQs help AI understand your business

📸 Why client reviews matter more than ever

📸 How photographers can build authority online

📸 Practical GEO strategies photographers can implement immediately

Whether you're a wedding photographer, family photographer, portrait photographer, commercial photographer, event photographer or photography business owner, understanding AI search optimisation could become one of the most important marketing skills of the next decade.

If you've been wondering how to rank in ChatGPT, how to appear in AI search results, or how Generative Engine Optimisation affects photography businesses, this episode is for you.

  • Women ARE Joining Photography… So Why Are They Leaving?
    Jun 14 2026

Women are everywhere in photography courses, workshops, community groups and creative spaces… so why do so many disappear before long-term professional success, visibility or sustainability?

In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie Rees explores the uncomfortable but important conversation around women in the photography industry: from burnout, motherhood and caregiving pressures to confidence, visibility, microaggressions and industry culture.

This isn’t a “men vs women” conversation. It’s a deeper look at the systems, expectations and realities that can make creative careers harder to sustain long-term, particularly for women and women of colour.

    Khandie also discusses:

    • why women-focused photography groups exist
    • the backlash those spaces sometimes receive
    • invisible labour in photography
    • why some genres are respected differently
    • social media pressures
    • safety, networking and visibility
    • the difference between entering photography and surviving it professionally

The episode also acknowledges progress within the industry, supportive communities, and the importance of listening to a wide range of experiences beyond one perspective.

Whether you’re a photographer, creative business owner, parent, educator or somebody trying to survive the creative industry without burning out completely — this conversation will probably hit home.

  • You Don’t Own The Street: Photographers vs The Public
    Jun 7 2026

Photographers are getting furious at members of the public “ruining” their shoots… but have parts of photography culture become completely entitled in public spaces?

In this episode of The Loud Lens, Khandie dives into the growing tension between photographers, creators, influencers, and the general public — from viral rage-bait clips and public shaming videos to people deliberately interrupting shoots for attention.

    We talk about:

    • photographers acting territorial in public
    • influencers filming EVERYTHING
    • the rise of photography rage bait content
    • members of the public intentionally interfering with shoots
    • how social media rewards conflict on BOTH sides
    • why photographers are starting to face backlash
    • and the uncomfortable truth that bringing tripods, assistants, BTS videographers and lighting setups into public spaces changes how much space we take up

This isn’t a “photographers bad” episode.

And it’s not defending people sabotaging shoots either.

This is a brutally honest conversation about creator culture, professionalism, public perception, and whether social media has completely changed the relationship between photographers and the public.

Because maybe the biggest question is this:

Can you build your entire brand around public visibility… then get angry when the public reacts?

Expect blunt opinions, real talk, uncomfortable truths, and a balanced discussion the photography industry desperately needs.

  • You’re Not Burnt Out… You’re Probably Lonely
    May 31 2026

Most photographers think burnout is the problem. It’s not.

In this episode, we’re talking about something far more uncomfortable — loneliness in photography and creative careers.

Because you can be fully booked, constantly busy, surrounded by clients and still feel completely disconnected.

This isn’t just a mindset issue.

It’s built into how this industry works.

    We break down:

    • Why photographers and creatives are more prone to loneliness
    • The difference between being alone vs actually feeling lonely
    • How social media is making it worse (not better)
    • The impact of personality types, introversion, and neurodivergence
    • Signs you might be lonely without even realising it
    • And how to build connection without sacrificing your independence

We also talk about something most people ignore:

👉 Being alone isn’t always a bad thing

👉 In fact, it’s where your best creative work comes from

The goal isn’t to avoid being alone.

It’s to stop loneliness from quietly taking over your life.

  • Point and Shoot: The Ethics Crisis Nobody Wants to Talk About
    May 25 2026

From photographers on the London Underground to drone operators over nature reserves, public filming has become one of the most contested, and least honestly discussed, issues in creative culture right now.

This episode gets into all of it: what UK law actually says (and where people get it wrong), the auditor industry built on manufactured confrontations, content farming and how digest culture is shaping public opinion, the blurry line between amateur and commercial, and why social media can make a career and destroy a person before anyone's checked the facts.

Informed, balanced, and genuinely controversial. This is the conversation the photography community keeps avoiding.

  • Photographers Broke the Industry—Now They’re Playing Victim
    May 17 2026

Have we as photographers, allowed social media to slowly destroy photography as we push for more validation. I am talking bad behaviour and conduct in the pursuit of THAT shot. Are we then crying wolf and playing the victim when that risk doesnt pay off and we are called out on it?

With the increase in photographers being named and shamed on platforms, are we guilty of ruining it for ourselves as more restricitons and constraints are put on us and this industry?
