Your blood test says your hormones are normal. But you feel anything but. If you are in perimenopause and your results keep coming back fine while your symptoms keep getting worse, the test is not the problem, the type of test is.

I have run the DUTCH test alongside standard bloods on every single client I have seen for nearly 15 years. I can tell you exactly why your "normal" results keep missing what is actually wrong.

In this episode, I'm going to walk you through both hormone tests side by side, where each one excels, where each one falls short, and give you an honest, unbiased clinical verdict so you know precisely what to ask for before your next appointment.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 - Why "normal" blood results mean nothing when you still feel terrible
1:37 - The honest case for the standard blood test
2:10 - What a blood test cannot tell you about your hormones
3:02 - What the DUTCH test actually measures
3:40 - Hormone metabolites explained: why they matter as much as levels
4:25 - The biggest catch with the DUTCH test most people ignore
5:22 - Questions to ask yourself before choosing a test
7:42 - The clinical verdict: blood test vs DUTCH test
10:49 - Exactly what to do before your next appointment

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What is the difference between a standard blood test and the DUTCH test for hormones?
A standard blood test shows your hormone levels at a single point in time but cannot show how your body breaks down or clears those hormones. The DUTCH test measures hormone metabolites, which reveals the full picture of how your body is processing its hormones - information a blood test cannot provide.

Can your blood test results be normal and still have a hormone problem?
Yes. Your hormone levels can read perfectly normal on a blood test while your body is metabolising estrogen through a problematic pathway. The DUTCH test can identify this where a blood test cannot.

Do you need the DUTCH test if you are already on HRT?
If you are on HRT and still experiencing symptoms, the DUTCH test is especially important. It can reveal whether your body is processing and clearing those hormones correctly, which standard bloods are not designed to show.

  • 5 Warning Signs Your Doctor Is Using an Outdated Hormone Playbook
    Jun 25 2026

Your doctor may have 30 years of hormone experience. That does not mean 30 years of keeping up. There is a real difference between three decades of continuous learning and three decades of repeating the same outdated protocol. Most women have no way of knowing which one they are sitting across from, and that gap can cost years of unnecessary suffering.

If your treatment is not working, this is probably why.

In this episode, I'm going to walk you through 5 specific warning signs that your hormone care is built on an outdated clinical model, so you can walk into your next appointment knowing exactly what questions to ask.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 5 Warning Signs Your Doctor Is Using an Outdated Hormone Playbook
1:03 Sign 1: Nobody told you when in your cycle your blood should be drawn
4:20 Sign 2: Your "normal" result was compared to the wrong population
7:33 Sign 3: Estrogen was prescribed before progesterone was ever checked
11:18 Sign 4: Your doctor has never mentioned aromatization 14:10 How testosterone converts to estrogen and worsens your symptoms
16:09 Sign 5: You received a prescription and were sent home without support
18:04 What proper clinical monitoring after starting HRT actually looks like

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

What are the warning signs your hormone doctor is using an outdated approach?
If your doctor never discussed the timing of your blood draw, never mentioned progesterone before prescribing estrogen, or never explained what the reference range actually measures, your care may not reflect current hormonal science.

Why do some women feel terrible even when hormone labs come back "normal"?
Standard hormone reference ranges are built from population averages, not optimal health. A result inside the range means you are average for that sample group. It does not mean your hormones are where they need to be for you to function well.

What is aromatization and why should women on HRT understand it?
Aromatization is the process by which testosterone converts to estrogen inside the body, driven by an enzyme that becomes far more active when inflammation is present. A testosterone prescription can worsen estrogen dominance in women whose conversion is running unchecked.

  • Still Exhausted After Years of Thyroid Treatment? This Is Why
    Jun 18 2026

Treating only your thyroid will never fix how you feel. You've taken the medication. You've followed the protocol. Your numbers come back normal and your doctor says to stay the course. But you are still exhausted. You still can't lose weight. And the brain fog has not lifted.

That is not a compliance problem. It's a diagnosis problem.

In this episode, I'm going to show you exactly why thyroid-only treatment keeps failing women in perimenopause, what is running the show upstream of your thyroid, and the three questions to ask before your next appointment.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Why thyroid medication isn't enough for women in perimenopause
1:16 Point 1: Why thyroid-only treatment keeps failing you
2:17 The thyroid was never running the show
4:17 Point 2: The cortisol and progesterone pattern driving your symptoms
5:17 Why your T4 is not converting into usable T3
6:44 Point 3: How to tell if this is what you're dealing with
8:30 The exact symptom picture I see most often in clinic
8:49 Point 4: What the right treatment actually looks like
11:41 Point 5: Your first step before the next appointment
12:12 Three questions to bring to your doctor

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Q: What is the connection between cortisol, progesterone, and thyroid function?
A: Cortisol and progesterone are built from the same raw materials. When chronic stress or perimenopause pushes cortisol up, the body prioritizes it over progesterone. Low progesterone then blocks the T4-to-T3 conversion your thyroid depends on.

Q: Why isn't my thyroid medication working even though my blood tests look normal?
A: Blood tests measure thyroid hormone going in, not whether your body can convert it into the active form it can use. If the conversion is failing, your levels look fine on paper while you still feel terrible.

Q: What should I ask my doctor if thyroid medication isn't helping?
A: Ask for free T3 measured alongside your TSH and T4, progesterone tested in relation to thyroid function, and a cortisol pattern assessment to find out whether your stress response is blocking conversion.

  • If You Have Avoided HRT Because of Cancer Fear, This Is for You.
    Jun 11 2026

You have been white-knuckling your way through perimenopause symptoms because someone told you HRT causes breast cancer. That fear is real. But it is based on a study that never measured the most important part of the equation.

In this episode, I'm going to show you what actually drives cancer risk when it comes to hormones, why the fear most women carry is pointed at the wrong thing, and exactly what to ask your doctor before you make another decision about HRT.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
1:32 Where this fear came from: what the 2002 WHI study actually measured
2:56 What the study missed entirely (and why it changes everything)
4:16 What estrogen metabolism actually means and why it determines your risk
5:13 The three estrogen pathways: which one your body favours matters most
6:12 Why the DUTCH test is the missing piece of your decision
7:11 Signs your estrogen metabolism is already working against you
8:09 The checklist: how to know if this applies to you
10:37 What the science actually shows when you ask the right question
13:00 The specific questions to bring to your next appointment

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Q: Does HRT cause breast cancer?
A: Whether estrogen is present in your body is not what determines your cancer risk. What matters is how your body metabolises it. The 2002 study that drove this fear never once measured estrogen metabolism, which is the part of the equation that actually matters.

Q: What is the DUTCH test and why does it matter for HRT decisions?
A: The DUTCH test maps how your body processes and clears estrogen across the two primary metabolic phases. It shows whether you are predisposed to the problematic estrogen pathway and whether your methylation is working well enough to safely clear estrogen, giving you an individual risk picture rather than a population-level caution.

Q: Can you take HRT and lower your cancer risk at the same time?
A: For women whose estrogen metabolism is working well, bioidentical HRT does not elevate cancer risk. For many, it lowers it. If your metabolism is currently compromised, that pathway can be supported and shifted, at which point HRT can become not just safe but genuinely therapeutic.

  • Every Woman in Her 40s Being Treated for Anxiety Should Watch This First
    Jun 4 2026

Millions of women in their 40s are being prescribed antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication for a condition they do not have. The anxiety is real. The diagnosis is wrong. And those two things are completely different problems.

You may have done everything you were told. Therapy, breath work, medication, cutting caffeine, cleaning up your sleep. And you're still waking up at 2am with your heart pounding for no reason you can name. That's not a willpower problem. It's a wrong target problem.

In this episode, I'm going to show you what is actually happening in your hormonal biology when those anxiety symptoms arrive, why standard treatment completely misses it, and how to tell whether this pattern applies to you.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
2:19 Progesterone and your nervous system in perimenopause
3:56 Why progesterone deficiency produces symptoms that look identical to anxiety disorder
5:10 The cortisol-progesterone loop and why it keeps the problem self-reinforcing
5:53 How gut dysfunction compounds the problem in 45% of cases
6:39 Five questions to tell if this is your hormonal pattern right now
8:18 The real problem is a hormonal cascade, not a brain chemistry issue
9:05 The first thing to ask about tonight before accepting the next prescription

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Q: How does low progesterone cause anxiety symptoms in perimenopause?
A: Progesterone is your body's primary calming agent in the nervous system and binds to the same receptors as anti-anxiety medication. When it drops in perimenopause, the result is a hyperactive nervous system producing racing heart, fragmented sleep, and a persistent low-level alarm that every standard clinical tool correctly identifies as anxiety, because it looks exactly like anxiety.

Q: What is the cortisol-progesterone loop and why does it keep anxiety symptoms going?
A: Cortisol and progesterone compete for the same hormonal building blocks, so high cortisol drives progesterone lower, and low progesterone can drive cortisol higher. This becomes a self-reinforcing cycle that every brain-aimed treatment ignores entirely, because neither the cortisol imbalance nor the progesterone deficiency is being identified or addressed.

Q: How does gut dysfunction contribute to anxiety symptoms in perimenopause?
A: Compromised gut bacteria can produce an enzyme called beta-glucuronidase that reactivates already-cleared estrogen and sends it back into circulation. This compounds existing estrogen dominance, amplifies the hormonal imbalance driving the nervous system response, and is a compounding factor in approximately 45% of the cases seen clinically.

  • Perimenopause Treatment Right Now Is an Insult to Every Woman Going Through It
    Jun 4 2026

📌 Book your complimentary Discovery Call: https://thehormonebalanceclinic.com/

85% of women put on HRT are still suffering. Not because they aren't trying hard enough. Because most of them are being treated for the wrong hormonal problem.

The standard model treats perimenopause like menopause. It's not. They are completely different biological states. And prescribing for one when your body is in the other doesn't just fail to help; for a significant number of women, it actively makes things worse.

In this episode, I'm going to show you the specific flaw in standard perimenopause treatment, what is actually happening in your hormonal biology during this transition, and the questions to bring to your next appointment before you accept another prescription.

    ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS
0:00 Why 85% of women on standard HRT are still suffering
1:20 The flaw baked into the standard model that almost guarantees failure
2:06 Why perimenopause and menopause are completely different biological states
3:55 What adding more estrogen actually does when your body is already estrogen dominant
    5:48 Estrogen dominance explained
7:46 Five questions to identify whether the standard model has been failing you
11:14 Two biological states that need two completely different maps
12:32 Client case study: 47-year-old, nearly 2 stone gained on HRT, anxiety escalating
13:57 Standard blood test vs. the DUTCH test
16:14 The questions to bring to your next appointment

    ❓ QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Q: Why does HRT often fail to help with perimenopause symptoms?
A: In perimenopause, estrogen can remain elevated while progesterone drops sharply, creating a state called estrogen dominance. Standard HRT adds more estrogen to a system that already has too much, which worsens symptoms for a significant number of women rather than resolving them.

Q: What is the difference between a standard blood test and the DUTCH test for hormones?
A: A standard blood test shows your hormone levels at a single point in time. The DUTCH test shows how your body is metabolizing and clearing those hormones over time, including whether your estrogen and progesterone are appropriately balanced relative to each other at the right point in your cycle.

Q: What are the symptoms of estrogen dominance in perimenopause?
A: Estrogen dominance in perimenopause produces weight gain, brain fog, mood swings, poor sleep, anxiety, and low libido. This is why women are frequently prescribed more estrogen when the real problem is insufficient progesterone to balance it.
