    January 30, 2026: This loss really stings. It certainly isn’t some sort of season ending loss but it certainly makes the path MSU wants a whole lot harder. And it probably brings a lot of questions as well. The first half of this game probably couldn’t have gone any worse as the Spartans trailed by 16, 42-16 thanks to a last second dunk by Coen Carr. In the first half, the Spartans were 5-14 from 2, 2-12 from 3, 7 offensive rebounds but no second chance points, 4 assists, 11 turnovers, and the only bright spot - if you could call it one - was going 10-11 from the line. Really a nightmare start and one in which Michigan didn’t really play well either. The second half started differently as the Spartans battled back and not only tied the game but actually briefly took the lead 59-57. It was some serious focus from MSU on defense and offense to make that push and Michigan looking very very casual. They seemed to figure out what to do with Mara on both sides of the court but then Michigan went a little small and MSU just couldn’t match the firepower and just could not hit a single open shot. The game then just got out of hand as Michigan hit their free throws and the Spartans continued to miss shots to make the margin double digits. About the only thing to add is that Jordan Scott performed well and Jeremy Fears with another career high in scoring with 31 points. MSU drop to 19-3 and 9-2 in the Big Ten and will head to Minneapolis to try and right the ship before returning home and facing a super tough Illinois team.     January 29, 2026: There’s been some movement in the field as teams climb in and others fall out. But no change at the top. Our four 1 seeds in order of ranking is Arizona, Duke, Michigan, UConn. Once again the bracket features a lot of high major teams. The only non-power conferences getting any love is the West Coast with St. Mary’s and Gonzaga and the Mountain West. Dom projects Utah State, San Diego State, and New Mexico in the field.

    Dom’s last 4 in are Miami (Fl), Cal, Stanford, and New Mexico. First 4 out are Ohio State, Missouri, Butler and Seton Hall.

    January 29, 2026: The game has finally arrived as rival #3 Michigan visit the Breslin Center and the #7 MSU Spartans to clash for first place in the Big Ten. In the first of two matchups this year, there is expected to be some extra juice with this game after what happened at mid court last season on Senior Night. Although we don’t expect any repeat of those antics, there is a lot riding on this game and it will be interesting to see which team is best equipped to handle the pressure of this big test.

    Michigan is coming off a squeaker win at home over previously unbeaten Nebraska who was down two of their top three scorers while MSU miraculously pulled a win out of a hat in Piscataway in overtime. Can Fears and company make it 3 in a row over Dusty May? Will Kohler pull out of his shooting slump? Can the Spartans contain UM’s punishing interior attack of Johnson and Mara?

    A lot of questions that fortunately, will be answered soon enough on a cold and blustery Friday evening in East Lansing.
