About this listen
Some 600 years ago, citizens in the German city of Aachen started to pour out of their houses and into the streets where they began to writhe and whirl uncontrollably. This was the first major outbreak of the dancing plague, or known in the medical world as choreomania. Some accounts tell of villagers dancing and jiving to the point of exhaustion, and in some cases, death!
